How to choose a centella (cica) product

Centella asiatica, nicknamed cica, is a plant extract used widely in Korean skincare for its calming, comforting feel. On ingredient lists you may also see centella compounds such as madecassoside and asiaticoside.

Choose by step. For a refreshing layer, the Parnell Cicamanu Serum Mist or the Pyunkang Yul Calming Deep Moisture Toner work well. In the serum step, the AXIS-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule and the Jumiso D-Panthenol Barrier Soothing Serum focus on barrier care. For a cream, pick the Dr.Althea 147 Barrier Cream for dry and sensitive skin, the iUNIK Beta-Glucan Daily Moisture Cream for an everyday texture, or the Centellian24 Madeca Cream Time Reverse, which adds PDRN and retinol. Cica even shows up in sun care, in the Abib Quick Sunstick Protection Bar SPF50.

Can I use centella every day?

Most centella products here are gentle enough for daily use. Follow the directions on each product page and introduce one new product at a time.

Is cica good for oily skin?

Yes, in a light texture. Toners, mists and serums give oily skin a calm feel without heaviness; save richer creams for dry patches.

Are your sunscreens approved for the US?

In the US, sunscreens are regulated as over-the-counter products. Our sunscreen pages show the US Drug Facts, including active ingredients, directions and warnings.

How to use it in your routine

Cleanse, mist or tone, apply your cica serum, moisturize, then SPF in the morning. Pair it with sensitive skin picks, barrier care creams, mists for a midday refresh and more moisturizers. Compare cica with other calming actives in our Korean skincare ingredients guide.
